Daniel is a native New Orleanian whose family has been practicing law in Louisiana for over a century. His own legal career started during a law school clerkship in the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office, where he gained extensive courtroom experience in a variety of criminal trials and civil matters. Upon graduation, Daniel’s practice focused on the defense of insurers and their insureds in a broad range of liability claims and coverage disputes – an area of law that remains a focus of his practice today.
As Daniel’s practice has grown, however, his scope of experience has also broadened. As a testament to Daniel’s distinct compassion, creativity, and proactive advocacy for the overall success of his clients’ business, Daniel’s clients have come to call on him to represent them as both a litigator and a corporate advisor across a broad range of legal concerns. He takes careful effort to look beyond the immediate matter at hand, helping his clients to anticipate and mitigate any future issues they may not otherwise foresee. His clients include, among others, individuals; insurers; construction, environmental, and energy sector contractors and suppliers; regional business owners; major retailers; the world’s leading electrical vehicle manufacturer; and one of the world’s largest oil companies.
Daniel is also a Certified Litigation Management Professional (CLMP), a designation awarded to him by the Litigation Management Institute at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
CONSTRUCTION, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND ENERGY:
Daniel’s construction practice includes the comprehensive representation of commercial and residential contractors; subcontractors; equipment and materials suppliers; real estate developers; oil and gas/pipeline contractors; oilfield service companies; multinational energy corporations; and a number of their insurers in all manner of corporate transactional and litigation matters. Daniel defends his clients against construction defect claims, delay claims, bid protests, surety claims, payment disputes, and product defect claims. He also advises clients on administrative actions involving environmental concerns, land-use litigation, zoning and permitting issues, private and public works matters, contract formation/negotiation, lien disputes, labor and employment laws, and additional insured and indemnity issues.
As an active advocate and participant in the construction industry and its advocacy groups, including the Louisiana Association of General Contractors and the Homebuilders Association of Greater New Orleans, Daniel understands the real-world challenges, financial impact, and business implications of every legal transaction in which he is involved. His clients have the unique advantage of an attorney who not only understands their industry, but one with the experience to represent them in a broad range of legal matters – from routine transactions to the successful resolution of bench and jury trials on their behalf. It is because of this holistic approach to legal representation and rare balance of practice that Daniel is trusted counsel to clients of all size and specialization within the industry.
INSURANCE DEFENSE & SUBROGATION:
For over 20 years, Daniel has been retained by domestic and global insurers and their insureds to defend them in coverage disputes and litigation involving workers’ compensation, premises liability, construction defect, product liability, general liability, and commercial auto claims.
Daniel has also been called on to subrogate on behalf of some of the world’s largest insurers and TPAs in trucking, automobile, product liability, general liability, and general negligence claims. He is a member of both the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) and the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP).
In addition to his industry-specific involvement, Daniel is also a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, and the Louisiana Association of Self-Insured Employers.
