Biography

Ryan was born and raised in McComb, Mississippi. He graduated with a B.A. in English from the University of Mississippi in 2007 before receiving his Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law in 2009. During law school, Ryan was selected to serve as a legal extern at the City Attorney’s Office in Jackson, Mississippi. He also participated in Phi Delta Phi, the Entertainment & Sports Law Society, and an accelerated course of study resulting in his early graduation.

Ryan began his legal career as a Deputy City Attorney-Litigation Division for the City of Jackson, Mississippi, where he represented the Mayor of Jackson, Jackson City Council, Jackson Police Department, and Jackson Fire Department. In 2013, he entered private practice and began representing corporate clients and national insurers. Ryan continues to represent his clients in state and federal courts throughout Louisiana and Mississippi. He has obtained numerous involuntary dismissals through early dispositive motions, as well as litigated cases through trial and appeal. He has also obtained several voluntary dismissals and early favorable settlements at the initial stages of litigation.

Ryan has served as a judge for the Mississippi College School of Law Moot Court Competition and the Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition. He also served on Diversity and Inclusion committees to identify issues to promote diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces. Ryan was selected to provide recommendations regarding testing procedures for the Mississippi Bar Examination, which led to changes to the examination’s duration and method of administration.

  • Resolution of $3.6 million lawsuit for approximately 7% of the demand.
  • Resolution of $2 million lawsuit for approximately 8% of the demand.
  • Recovery of $180,000 for an insurance company in an unjust enrichment claim against a defaulting mortgagee.
  • Successful defense of insurer against claims for death benefits by a decedent’s adult children.
  • Recovery for multiple insurance companies related to workers’ compensation benefits paid to employees for injuries caused by third parties.
  • Successful appeals for multi-family property owner against municipality’s attempts to demolish properties and unwarranted fines.
  • Defense of client in employment matter resulting in voluntary withdrawal of employee’s claims.

Community Involvement

Ryan’s advocacy extends beyond the courtroom in which he practices. Ryan is a committed volunteer with Mississippi Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, Wills for Heros, and Human Rights Campaign. Ryan routinely presents continuing education programs and seminars to claim professionals and insurers throughout the United States. Ryan has provided training to over 400 newly recruited and veteran police officers on various topics, including use of deadly, police pursuits, and employment law issues.
