David was born and raised in a large and close-knit family from New Orleans. He set his sights on becoming an attorney at age 13 due to the positive influence of his best friend’s father who practiced law. Despite staying out of school for several years to work, he returned and graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1980 with a degree in business, and received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University College of Law 1983. He started his career with one of the largest defense firms in the area, until he was made “an offer he couldn’t refuse”, and has been with Duplass for almost 30 years. He remains involved in the daily operations of the firm and is committed to its continued success and goal to be a place where “people want to work”.
David has a well-rounded civil trial practice with considerable trial experience before judges and juries in both the state and federal court systems of Louisiana. His practice involves the defense of insured and self-insured entities in building construction, road construction, premises liability, workers’ compensation, commercial general liability and auto liability, including UM and bad faith claims. David has been married to Beth Goens Bourgeois for more than 38 years, and is privileged to be the father (and father-in-law) of three sons, a daughter and multiple grandchildren.
